A bright red, heading type of chicory. The red lvs have wht midribs & veins. It is used extensively in Italy. Its flavorful, somewhat bitter flavor, is enjoyed both raw & cooked. A relative of endive, its lvs turn more red & gradually form a compact cabbage-like head as weather turns colder. The outer lvs can be harvested on some plants as they grow. Plant in sun.
